FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Tony, what is unique about your art?
A: Pretty much everything. At least I do not know anyone doing this.
Q: Describe the Marco Island Organic Series paintings you do.
A: Glad to! First, I take 12oz. raw canvas (that is HEAVY canvas) sheets into the ocean in front of my studio. (I live on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico on Marco Island.) Step Two: After throughly soaking the canvas I drag it onto shore and stretch it out on the beach. Third: I apply paints (non-toxic) and vetetable dies to the wet canvas and work it in with brush, my hands, and sand or tiny bits of shells, organic matter, and seawater. Sometimes it is raining on the beach, too. Fourth: I rinse the canvas in the ocean and look at it again on shore and repeat the process of paint, dye, sand, etc., and rinsing, until I am happy with it. Fifth: I roll the canvas up in plastic sheeting, take it back to the lanai and let it soak in its own juices overnight, sometimes for a day or two. Sixth: I stretch it out, weight it down and work on it with more paint while still wet. Seventh: I then let it dry. Eighth: This is where artist interpretation and expression kicks in - I may add paint or extra sand. Or I may take it back out to the ocean, if I am not happy. (One painting went back into the ocean three times. Another went back in seven times!) Eventually, I recut the canvas to fit the painting or add paint to "fit the cut", and finalize the painting. Lastly, I work with my framer and with my trademark secret way of suspending the canvas in air, we mount it in the middle of a "Floating Frame."
When you buy one of these pieces you should get a land deed, because you actually ARE getting a piece of Marco Is. beachfront!
