I started working in light seven years ago, then opened a gallery in Madison, Wisconsin, and really expanded my avenues.of expressing art through light - with mobiles, fixed structures and moving interactive pieces.
I have been joined by a wonderful partner, Jim Swanker, who not only builds frames for my paintings but also gives invaluable technical assistance and "idea support" on the light sculptures. I just had my first gallery showing of a light sculpture in the area at the Esplanade on Marco Island. Jim and I are looking forward to expanding the work now that I have more time and have decided to remain on Marco along with Jim and the other artists at the Esplanade Art Colony..
Light sculptures can be free ranging, taking up a whole wall - or can be contained, basically in a "light box" which contains the light much like a framed painting. Marco Island Light Paintings are inside or outside. Outside sculptures have special requirements to be discussed..
